Is Reiki safe? +

Yes. Reiki is considered remarkably safe for all ages, including children, the elderly, and those in fragile health. Because Reiki is non-invasive and involves no substances, there are no known negative interactions with medications or medical treatments. It is widely used in hospital wellness programs, cancer centers, and post-surgical recovery rooms.

Is Reiki a religion? +

No. Reiki is not a religion, doctrine, or belief system. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health defines Reiki as a “complementary health approach”, not a spiritual requirement.

You do not need to believe in Reiki for it to work—animals, infants, and people who are skeptical show measurable responses in research.

What might I feel during a Reiki session? +

Everyone experiences Reiki differently, but common sensations include:

  • Warmth or heat from the practitioner’s hands
  • Gentle tingling or energy movement
  • Deep calm or emotional relief
  • Lightness, floating, or peaceful stillness
  • Falling asleep (very common!)

All responses are normal. Reiki works whether you feel sensations or not.

Can Reiki help with medical conditions? +

Reiki is not a cure for disease, but research shows it supports healing by reducing pain, anxiety, fatigue, and stress, allowing your body to recover more efficiently. Reiki is an ideal complementary therapy for:

How is Reiki different from massage? +

Massage = muscle manipulation, pressure, oils, and undressing
Reiki = feather-light touch or no touch, fully clothed, quiet energy work

Massage targets the physical body. Reiki works on the nervous system and biofield, helping the body enter a deep rest-and-repair state.

Reiki Massage (60 min sessions only) = a unique blend of Reiki and moderate touch. This fully clothed session enhances relaxation while supporting emotional tension release.

They complement each other beautifully.

What if I’m skeptical? +

Totally fine—many first-time clients are. Studies using sham Reiki (fake Reiki) show that real Reiki creates physiological changes that sham does not, including:

  • Increased heart rate variability
  • Changes in body temperature
  • Deepened parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) activation

What should I expect during my first session? +

Your session includes:

  1. A short conversation about your goals (anxiety, pain, sleep, etc.)
  2. Lying comfortably on a massage table or sitting in a chair, fully clothed
  3. Soft music, low lighting, and a peaceful environment
  4. Light touch or hands held just above the body
  5. A grounding conversation afterward if desired

How many sessions do people usually need? +

It depends on your goals:

  • Stress or overwhelm: 1–3 sessions
  • Anxiety or sleep issues: 4–6 sessions
  • Chronic pain or long-term patterns: weekly or biweekly for 6–8 weeks
  • Maintenance: monthly or seasonal sessions

Your practitioner will help you create a simple plan that fits your needs.

Are there any situations where Reiki is not recommended? +

Reiki is safe for nearly everyone. It can be done sitting, lying down, or hands-off entirely. The only cautions are:

  • Individuals who prefer not to be touched (hands-off is an option)
  • Those with trauma triggers around touch—please inform your practitioner
  • Severe psychiatric crises (Reiki is supportive, not a sole treatment)

What should I wear? +

Anything comfortable. Yoga pants, loose clothing, or everyday clothes are all perfectly fine. You will remain fully clothed the entire time. It is strongly recommended to not wear too many layers of clothing during the session.

How long is a session? +
  • Mini sessions: 10 minutes
  • Standard sessions: 30 minutes
  • Deep sessions: 60 minutes
How do I prepare? +
  • Hydrate beforehand
  • Avoid heavy meals
  • Set a simple intention (ex: “relax,” “clarity,” “healing”)
  • Arrive a few minutes early to settle in

Can Reiki help with emotional release? +

Yes. Many clients experience a gentle emotional softening or release during or after a session. This may feel like:

  • Warmth in the chest

What’s the difference between Energy Healing, Reiki, and Chakra Balancing? +

Reiki is one form of energy healing.

A chakra is an energy center in the body that relates to physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Chakras are thought to help regulate how energy flows through the body, influencing how we feel, cope with stress, and maintain balance.

Chakra balancing is often included within a Reiki session, depending on the practitioner. Your session may naturally support chakra alignment through the flow of energy.
